Thought I will start off with a couple of photos of Paul and Bob’s night ride. I think that’s Bob in the first image and Paul in the second one.
Today was a down day or an off day for both of us, no bike trails for Paul. However, we did go out exploring by car. We took a drive into the Springfield section of Jacksonville, the oldest part of the city.
They have some nice old houses there in the historic district. Where some old ones have come down, one builder seems to be really doing a great job with replicating the older style homes. Same styles, nice details and the proportions were not all oversized as you see around Newark. It was very refreshing to see that the neighborhood was keeping some of its charms.
There were some remnants of art deco here and there in the houses and buildings.
We noticed the street signs had a simplified art deco motif on them. We stopped at a little cafe to grab a snack. While sitting out front we happened to look across the street and there on a building was the original detail used on the street signs.
We later met up with friends in Avondale, another old neighborhood of Jacksonville, and ate in the courtyard of the Blue Fish Restaurant and Oyster Bar. We later drove around that neighborhood with many outstanding examples of Prairie Style home. That’s right, Jacksonville has more examples of that style of architectures that any other city outside the midwest. As we headed home out of that neighborhood, we took another detour and landed in another Riverside neighborhood, which we’ll have to revisit another time.
We didn’t take many photos today, but I am putting up this one from the other evening. Roosting Pelicans. Now it is time for me to end the day with some sleepy time tea and head for a nights roost, I mean rest.
