Today was rehoming day. We started the day just before sunrise with a visit to the beach. There was some cloud cover on the horizon, but that added to the colorful drapery of daybreak’s appearance.

While at the beach, we saw this very deep dark little hole with a very large mound of sand built up outside of it. It was very intriguing, occupant unknown.
And here is sand dune where there be dragons, or dragonflies that is. You might be able to see some specks and blurry lines to the left of the image. Those are some of the droves of dragonflies catching their breakfast of gnats, no-see-ums, and such whatnot.
Paul attended a couple online meetings in the morning with his laptop setup outside. What a glorious office location. The light was better out there, although he had to use his headset to keep the sound of the birds from overwhelming folks on the other end. We were still able to vacate our jungle campsite before the departure deadline. I would stay at Hanna Park again if we are ever down this way in the future.
The drive to St. Augustine was just about an hour south via the A1A along the coast. We are staying on an unnamed barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Tolomato River.
Paul’s telling me that there are recent armadillo sightings on trails not far from here. That’s something I missed seeing so far as we were driving through the state. Seems like back in the olden days you could spot them all along the side of the road, kind of like woodchucks around home. I thought maybe the population had been reduced along the road, also like our woodchucks who stray just a bit to far from the edge of their domain. But, we may actually see some while we’re here.
It’s pretty hot today, projected high is 87, but it sure feels hotter in the sun. (I’m know, that doesn’t sound very pitiful if you’re still in the throes of winter.) We are having a bit of heatwave until Saturday brings possible storms. After that, we’ll see a few days of low 70s before we head home on the 7th.
Our new camp location doesn’t have much shade so we ran the air conditioner for the first time this trip. All shades and curtains are drawn tight to shield us for the sun. Neighbors probably think we are the odd folks moving into the neighborhood, maybe even crazy neighbors like in The Burbs. (Amusing older movie if you haven’t seen it.)
There are a couple of restaurants nearby. One just a short walk to the river side of this island. The other is on the ocean side across the street. Maybe when it cools off later on we’ll go explore those.
We took a drive over the bridge to St. Augustine. It seemed like a mile long bridge, but that didn’t discourage lots of people from hiking across it. The town was jammed packed with people. Lots of great architecture and places to eat and drink. Looking forward to checking it our more throughly in the coming days.
I finally remember to grab a snapshot of our campsite on arrival.
