The weather was grand today! Sunny low 70s and breezy.
It’s bike week down in Daytona Beach. It’s not far from us, so we’re seeing lots of biker folk out on the road and in town. Apparently, if you are part of the biker group you can partake in local excursion rides, one is coming to visit St. Augustine.
Paul signed us up for a tour of the Flagler College, which was once the Ponce de Leon Hotel built in 18 months in the mid-1800s. We only got to see a small portion of the building since the students dorms are in the old hotel rooms. What we did see was beautifully done. The exterior in a Spanish style and interior was adorned with symbolism, in keeping with the period tradition. The craftsmanship in all details was outstanding, highlighted by colored glass and crystal chandeliers by Tiffany.
The fountain in the middle of the courtyard was cleverly designed with beauty and function. It also served as a sundial with the help of 12 frog sculptures around the base.
After our tour, we headed back to camp to meet with friends who came down from Jacksonville to join us for brunch at the Reef Restaurant. It is the second eatery associated with the campground and is on the beach side of the island. After parting with our friends in the Reef’s parking lot, Paul and I went down to the beach to test the water. It was cold, not a bit of warmth, but the kids playing in the waves didn’t care a bit. They were having fun. Lots of folks out getting an early start on their tans.
We walked back to the campsite and Paul went for a bike ride in the same park we explored earlier in the week. This time he saw two different armadillos which were much bigger than the one we saw. He also spooked a deer who quickly disappeared into the brush.
While he was away, I played around with MyHeritage’s new AI portrait feature. Pretty funny stuff
As everyone knowns I hate to have my photo taken. I am much more comfortable behind the lens rather than in front of it. But, in order to play with the AI feature I had to have photos, so I fired off 10 quick selfies.
They were horrible, but I uploaded them to their site anyway. They promise to delete the images right after they are done creating the images. Once uploaded they set to work putting your face in different periods in time, even some painting in the style of Klimt, Van Gough and a few others.
You can try it out for yourselves its pretty amusing. https://www.myheritage.com/ai-time-machine
They will send you an email with a link to view the images when completed.
Can you pet an armadillo? I wish we had them scurrying around up here.
Great pictures, as usual. Those AI photos are amazing too.
