Super busy day today covered so much ground. Another night posting at midnight. Party is raging out the window and I am sure that as soon as I put my head on the pillow I will not hear a sound out there.
We gathered up Mars and headed east off to Antwerp for the day. It was really a lovely day for touring out side. Beautiful blues skies and no moments of light drizzle as in the previous days travels.
We saw lots of Baroque style buildings and some art deco too. There were many cobbled walk ways thought tiny twisty alleyways and busy streets. Bike are everywhere but not so much as in the Netherlands.
Our first stop was the Cathedral of Assumption. It was easy to find as it stood taller than most of the buildings (but for the most modern ones) in this area of the city. We wound our way through the streets and arrived in its plaza to the sound of someone playing violin to the crowds.
We went inside to see their great collection of painting and wonderfully painted chapels.
They have a few Rubens and a number of his contemporaries. I appears that a lot of the cathedral is being renovated, both inside and out. Looks like they are bringing back some of the very old in painted interiors.
Then we headed to the main market plaza for a sit down had a beer and tea before we headed down to the river. Had my first cone of fries with mayonnaise, which were just fine. After that we
headed over to the castle an had a little look around.
While we were there we could see this amazing brick building a few streets over. The style of brickwork was really amazing, so we were trying to figure out what it was. As it turned out it was originally a meat cutters guild hall, which has now been turned into a musical instrument museum.
So we went in there for a bit, it was well done and very interesting.
We decided we had better head off to our next adventure, but decided to gab a bite to eat before we headed out to our final adventure for the day. Which Paul will write about at some point soon.
I’ll add the photos tomorrow as it takes FOREVER to get images uploaded on this network.
I added more images to Poopsie’s entry instead.
Off to Amsterdam in the morning.
The details in the buildings and streets are amazing.
