Today is Sunday Sept. 23.
Slept in for a bit this am. Got our breakfast and then headed to the city for a look around. The main square is very busy in the morning. The Basilica is there and some amazing bronze statute illustrating the history of the city. We popped into the church for a look around. It was very ornate as is the style of the old churches here.

We then hit the medieval cobbled streets to have a look around. The main street is cobbled with pedestrian access and leads to the castle on the hill. With lots of shops along the way. All of the older and central streets are very narrow in most the city.

Here you can see one of the streets with the Minaret in the background. The man is walking in the roadway and the lady on the sidewalk.

There was a city race going on with lots of runners going up and down the hills cobbled streets. I can only imagine what that run will do to their feet and knees later on in life.

What we discovered there is that wine tastings start at 9:30 during the week and 10:30 on sudays. Many of the local vineyards have a shop as well as wine sellers selling all kinds of wines. Eger is a major wine producer and the people are very proud of their wine making heritage. The vineyards cover all the hillsides for miles around.

After a little wine tasting we headed out of town to visit Inga in Slovakia for tea. It’s about 2.5 hours out of Eger. The roads were pretty straight so we could make up some time and got there in about 2 hours.

After leaving the grape growing area we passed the sunflower and corn belt. These fields seem to go on forever. And the buzz from the electric wires was really amazing.

We finally made it to the border crossing.

Meeting Inga was great fun. She wanted to share her daily routine with us, so we took her mom and dogs for a walk by the lake. We then went by cab to her city center. On the way we saw where she worked.

The city is filled with great old buildings and a big old church which is being renovated. It seems that all the churches in these big old cities are constantly under repair and upkeep.

We had a great meal at the restaurant she picked out for us.
We walked around her city some more to have a look at the park fountains and amazing midlevel city ruins that were discovered during some city road work. The ruins are well preserved and are now being used as a kind of art center.

At this point dusk was starting to arrive so we picked out our taxi from the “Taxi Nest” to take us back to her home and our car.

Hugs and sad good-byes followed. We hit the road back to Eger for the night.

Unfortunately we didn’t get many photos of her pretty city share. We only had a little time there, and spent more time talking and enjoying each other’s company as we got to know on another in our 1st life. To me that was more important than city photos.

Tomorrow we point ourselves toward Vienna.
